ALTA: American Land Title Association, ACSM: American Congress on Surveying and Mapping

What is an ALTA/ACSM? A survey prepared to a set of minimum nationwide standards developed jointly by the American Land Title Association and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping. Generally an ALTA/ACSM survey is conducted to satisfy the needs of lenders, corporations, and title companies when dealing with commercial real estate transactions and issuing title or mortgage insurance. ALTA specifies the data to be shown on the survey including boundary lines, buildings and improvements, utilities, easements, encroachments and others.
